A master bathroom tiled entirely in hand-painted Moroccan ceramic and encaustic cement tile. 340 individual pieces. No two painted identically.
The pattern was designed in collaboration with the interior designer — a geometric field with a border drawn from 16th-century Andalusian architecture. The installer spent three days on layout alone, working from a full-scale drawing pinned to the subfloor.
Encaustic tile requires a different adhesive, a different grout, and a different curing protocol than standard ceramic. The sealer application took two days and requires re-application every three years. The clients were told this in writing before the work began.
